ATCs - Authorizations to Carry Permits and Self Defense Aspects
There is a provision in the Firearms Act of Canada, called ATC - Authorization to Carry a handgun, as the sidearm by Canadian individuals. Usually such will be issued to designated individuals for their employment duties, for example as armored courier officers or Canada Border Services officers and etc. Also such can be issued in so called Remote Wilderness Areas to protect the life of human from predators (for bush pilots, trappers, woodworking industry workers and etc.). Although protection of your personal life or somebody else's life from other human being is a legal option, it is very unlikely that ordinary person in Canada will be qualified for it. In this case, such individuals have to prove that there were precedents of a life threat in their past, and all the time police could not help them in it.
